about us for donors for professional advisors for grant grants

Shuswap Foundation

In 1994, the Shuswap Foundation was begun with a $2,000 "organizational grant" from the District of Salmon Arm, and a "Founders Fund" of over $70,000 contributed by more than 60 residents or families who embraced the foundation concept.

The Shuswap Foundation made its first grant from earnings on endowed funds in 1996 ($2,000). In total, since 1996, the Foundation has returned $460,000 to the community in grants from fund earnings.

The Shuswap Community Foundation serves the "Shuswap Areas" of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District: The areas from Malakwa and Sicamous in the East to the South Shuswap and the North Shuswap in the West. The area also reaches South through the Salmon River Valley to Falkland.

Our Mission

  • To provide a vehicle for residents of the Shuswap to enrich their community in perpetuity through the establishment of a variety of endowed funds;
  • To disburse the earnings on the capital funds annually to build community capacity and to support charitable projects that will enrich the lives of residents;
  • To honour and remember the Foundation’s donors; and
  • To assume a leadership role in community philanthropy.

Supporting Your Community

With assets of more than $3 million, and growing rapidly, the Shuswap Community Foundation is the perfect vehicle by which people in the Shuswap can leave a legacy to their community.

Endowed funds are well managed so that grants can be made annually in perpetuity to support quality of life initiatives in our region.

Although it is able to take advantage of the vast resources of the Community Foundations of Canada, the Shuswap Foundation, is completely autonomous and is managed by a local board of directors.

The Foundation honours its donors, and provides a lasting tribute to anyone in whose name a memorial gift is made.

Visit our Donors section for more information on giving to your community.
