Acceptance Policies |
Deed of GiftThe Shuswap Foundation will accept any gift of money, stock or property, provided the donor and the Foundation agree on the terms and conditions of the gift. A "deed of gift" setting out the terms and conditions will be signed before the donation is transferred to the Foundation.
Named FundsAt the request of a donor, the Shuswap Foundation will establish a fund in the name of the donor, or in memory of someone a donor nominates provided: The fund is at least $10,000 or if the fund is initiated with a lesser amount, (at least $1000), it remains "open" with the understanding that there is a $10,000 "target." Until the fund reaches $10,000, earnings will be used at the discretion of the directors while respecting donors’ wishes as far as possible. A fund of $10,000 or more will generate enough annual income to allow a meaningful dedicated grant from that fund.

Memorial TributesA gift to the Shuswap Foundation is a very effective way to honour a departed friend or relative. The gift can be made to any of the Foundation’s funds. The remembered person will be celebrated in the Foundation’s "Memorial Book," and her or his name will be kept alive in the records and reports of the Foundation. Occasionally, as appropriate, a grant may be made in the name of the deceased person. A named memorial fund is subject to the same rules as "named funds."
Donor Advised & Managed FundsTypes of funds you would want to talk to a foundation director and your financial advisor about. A Donor Advised Fund is like a "Private or Family Foundation" where the donor makes all decisions about how earnings are to be used in the community. A Managed Fund is an unendowed agency fund. The Shuswap Foundation can accommodate managed funds, but has a strong preference to deal with endowed funds.
You may wish to refer to the Foundation’s Annual Report for a complete list of funds. All funds held by the Shuswap Foundation are "open" to receive additional contributions.
